John is from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. John's schools include Aiken Preparatory School-Aiken,SC; Episcopal High School-Alexandria,VA; Moravian College (BA Degree, Political Science)-Bethlehem, PA; Duke University (Engineering); and Lehigh University (MA Degree, International Relations)-Bethlehem, PA . John was a 1968 "Looper" at Bethlehem Steel Corporation 1968-1987 at the corporate office in Bethlehem-PA, Burns Harbor-IN, Johnstown-PA and Sparrows Point-MD. (In 1968, John was drafted into the US Army, commissioned a 2nd LT at Fort Benning-GA, and served in Vietnam. He returned to Bethlehem Steel in 1970.) This was followed by consulting assignments with Industrial Consultants in Washington, DC, and Hopeman Brothers in Waynesboro, VA. In 1990 John became the North American representative for the Vermipan Division of Keller & Co. AG, a subsidaery of HIAG. . John retired on December 31, 2012.
John played intercollegiate golf at Duke and Moravian College where he was the MAC Champion. He then coached Lehigh's golf team in 1967 and 1968 which won the MAC Golf Conference Title. John continues to play to this day and has shot his age since turning 70 several times each year. In November of 2014, John was inducted into Moravian's Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition to his golf career at Moravian.
Music John likes includes John Lennon: "So This is Christmas"; "I Cheated Me Right Out of You" by Moe Bandy, "She's Not Really Cheatin' (She's Just Gettin' Even)" by Moe Bandy. Books John likes include Stieg Larsson, Henning Mankell, and Robert D. Kaplan's "Balkan Ghosts". TV shows John likes include Mankell's Wallander Series, Foyle's War Series, Longmire Series, and NCIS.

John is married to Anne Bernadette Mallon of Dublin, Ireland. They have three children and 9 grand children.
